Wilton Manors City Commissioners Ted Galatis, Scott Newton and Julie Carson are sworn into their seats on the Commission. While Galatis and Newton were returned to office, Carson became the open lesbian woman elected to the Commission. Included was the swearing in of returning Mayor Gary Resnick.

A documentary production crew stopped at Java Boys in Wilton Manors to shoot an episode of "One Square Mile". "One Square Mile" is a documentary series, that won a 2010 Emmy Award for Documentary, that examines a unique lifestyle within one square mile of a major metropolitan community.

The show will be about two former corporate executives who lost their jobs and realized they could make more money being bums than being on unemployment. Almost 100 people showed up for a candlelight vigil held in honor of Courtney Bright, a 24 year old Polk County, Florida lesbian who was allegedly murdered by the father of her girlfriend. The vigil was organized by the Gay American Heroes Foundation.
